In an effort to help bridge the digital divide, Google and the Grameen Foundation have launched a new mobile phone service that will serve some 9 million people in rural Uganda. Users can send free text messages to a series of Google databases, which provide information on weather, farming and health. Answers are returned the same way, for a "Web search-like experience."
